Merry Christmas from Harley Quinn

“I thought about the Grinch who stole Christmas, and totally thought of the Joker and Harley tag teaming to steal Christmas from Gotham! Figured I’d spread a little holiday cheer, especially for those who don’t particularity enjoy the holidays. Enjoy!!”

New 52 Batwoman Cosplay

Scarlet Lithium Cosplay looks epic cosplaying as New 52 Batwoman and here’s what she had to say…

“Batwoman is an amazing character so beautiful and love her look! When the new 52 veirson came out and I read the first couple issues I was blown away from the story and art work. I knew from that moment I had to be come Batwoman! It took me over a year creating my Batwoman cosplay, with some help along the way. I made new changes to make my cosplay detailed from the comics and the cape is my most favorite I have made so far. The professional photo shoot in my cosplay was an amazing feeling to create scenes from the comics and fight criminals and finally become her in real life!  I hope everyone will enjoy my cosplay as much as I do! Thanks!”

LYRICS:

I Am The Night

A curtain call
The wings are waiting for the night to fall
Spread over the stage
Can’t keep me out
I’ve always pummeled through the doors of doubt
Power through the plagues

Wit for pace
This riddle’s just a race
Old self pities
Cleanse this city’s waste

I am the night
A tyrant of the shade
I am the spite
I am the pain repaid
I am the night
A fear that lies in shadows cannot fade
Crush the light
I am the night

Listening
The ripple of a heartbeat quickening
Fear behind the eyes
Uneasy prey
The broken bones litter the alleyways
Terror from the skies

Check my head
I guess the joke’s on me
I’m not laughing
At the irony

I am the night
A tyrant of the shade
I am the spite
I am the pain repaid
I am the night
A fear that lies in shadows cannot fade
Crush the light
I am the night

The chill
Of the shadow that lurks inside this mind
It builds
Breathe the fear out and face it one last time

I am the night
A tyrant of the shade
I am the spite
I am the pain repaid
I am the night
A fear that lies in shadows cannot fade
Crush the light
I am the night

And now the joke is on me…
I am the night

SDCC – Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice

Prepare yourself: Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice Comic-Con trailer has arrived. This footage brought the house down at Hall H, where director Zack Snyder and his cast assembled to discuss the new film and shed additional light on this epic superhero throwdown. Does it live up to the hype? Watch it and discover for yourself!

This trailer feels like a direct response to that underwhelming teaser, giving us our first look at Jesse Eisenberg’s Lex Luthor, Jeremy Irons’ Alfred, and Gald Gadot’s Wonder Woman. It also feels like a direct response to Man of Steel, showing that Ben Affleck’s Bruce Wayne was actually in Metropolis when Henry Cavill’s Superman threw down with Zod. Having seen the destruction Superman wrought first hand, the Dark Knight of Gotham City has some real motivation for taking down the Man of Steel.

Eagle-eyed viewers will also spot a glimpse of Bruce’s late father (played by Jeffrey Dean Morgan) and a Bat Cave memorial to Robin, who is apparently dead in the new DC movie universe. You’re going to have to watch this a few times to find every detail.

Zack Snyder’s BATMAN V SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE is in theaters March 25, 2016.

Batman: Arkham Knight PC Version Pulled

Batman: Arkham Knight has not had a good launch on PC, to put it mildly. There was, even before Warner Brothers, and Rocksteady started replying, a lot of issues, as documented here.

This was a case though where sometimes being quiet is the best thing you can do. The first of two posts put up on the Batman: Arkham Knight page suggests setting requirements, and ‘fixing’ the problem by turning down the options. It appears the minimum specs in fact are for minimum 720p/30 FPS instead of the more normal 1080p/60fps that people might expect, and the Ultra system requirements are a NVIDIA 980… and still capped at 30 FPS.

In that post in fact they warn against modifying the ini files saying it will make the game less stable. That is the only way to get more than 30 FPS currently, and also the only way to disable motion blur which some users have reported as crashing the game if  they do so.

The bigger news of the evening though is that Warner Brothers has removed Batman: Arkham Knight from the Steam Store. They have disabled it for purchasing saying, “We want to apologize to those of you who are experiencing performance issues with Batman: Arkham Knight on PC. We take these issues very seriously and have therefore decided to suspend future game sales of the PC version while we work to address these issues to satisfy our quality standards.”

However, it is important to note that while they are saying that, and in the post include a link to steam refunds, the game is still being sold in other distribution methods such as Amazon, Gamestop, Greenman Gaming and others. Getting refunds at those distribution networks may be tougher than via Steam, though at least in the case of Greenman Gaming – who are selling the title at 40% off – they have committed that if the next patch doesn’t fix the game for you they will offer a refund. Humble Bundle has also said they’ve been requested to take down the game from the store and appear to have done so, and are offering refunds through their support page.

What does this all mean? It’s a bit tough to say, though they appear to have come down a bit off their initial high horse and are looking at the game, the worst port since at least Assassin’s Creed: Unity, and arguably worse then that game’s awful port. This is, as far as I know, the first time a title has been suspended for sale on Steam like this, and is almost certainly directly due to the refund policy. It also appears we are seeing downstream effects of the Steam Refund policy on places like Greenman Gaming and Humble Bundle.

Update: It appears that Greenman Gaming have removed Batman: Arkham Knight from their store as well, with an out of stock part added.

Update 2: It appears that they aren’t the only ones. We’ve reached out to several retailers but there are some we can confirm based on statements made elsewhere or storefront changes.

  • GAME UK has according to Eurogamer pulled it from their shelves, though it still is on their website.
  • Amazon has apparently pulled their digital download code as that page is no longer available, and the physical copy is only from third party vendors
  • Walmart no longer appears to be selling any copies at this point in time.
  • Best Buy is still stocking Batman: Arkham Knight in Canada but not in the United States.
  • Gamestop appears to have pulled it in the United States but it is still available in Canada.

Everything wrong with Batman: Arkham Knight PC port

In yet another case of a PC port not getting all of the attention it requires, players are left wanting more out of Batman: Arkham Knight. While the game only released today gamers have been plagued with frame rate issues, frame rate caps and some even missing DLC. Batman: Arkham Knight is the last game in the popular Arkham series of Batman games and features the return of Rocksteady Games as the company developing it.

In case you want to stay up to date on all of the news there is currently a NeoGAF post running where people can list all of the issues that they are having with the launch of Batman: Arkham Knight. The game also currently has a mostly negative steam review currently with 1720 negative reviews received against the 760 positive, it’s also worth noting that you can only make a review for a steam game after you have purchased it. This is the first case of a AAA PC port having this many issues since the introduction of Steam refunds, through this only applies to those who purchased the game via Steam.

  • The first issue was one that fans were made aware of even before the release of the game when a new patch came out with a worrying message for those planning to play the game on AMD graphics cards. As also stated in the earlier post both nVidia and AMD have released updated drivers specifically to ensure that the running of Batman: Arkham Knight will go as… smoothly as possible.
  • A lot of PC gamers are still reporting that whether they play the game in 30 FPS or 60 FPS they are still getting plenty of instances where the frame rate is dropping dramatically, users are reporting particular problems when driving the batmobile.
  • It hasn’t taken fans long but the hard lock on the 30 FPS, surprising as the benchmark has no max FPS, that the game has shipped with has also had a work around implemented so if you want to be able to play Arkham Knight in 60 FPS you are required to go into the games installation folder and follow the path Batman Arkham Knight\BmGame\ Config\BmSystemSettings.ini and search for the setting that reads “MaxFPS=30″ and simply change that 30 into a 60, or whatever other number you would like your max frame rate set to.
  • Some users have also had issues where when checking the game cache causes the entire game to redownload, even one case where the game deleted itself entirely.
  • Denuvo DRM is apparently also active in the game, this has been known in the pass to hinder performance of games and was present recently in titles like Dragon Age: Inquisition and Lords of the Fallen.
  • Finally some of the specific nVidia game works features such as fog and smoke are causing many frame drops but it seems enhanced rain and hairworks aren’t causing issues.

Moving away from technical aspects, it seems that a PC release like this explains why review codes for this game were being sent out to the press for PlayStation 4 but PC review copies have only been distributed today. It was also changed yesterday that those who were to get free copies of Batman: Arkham Knight because of nVidia card purchases were initially meant to have preorder key 56900 that included the base game, Harley Quinn story and the Gotham’s Future skin packs but had that switched to 71669 which removes the Harley Quinn story pack from that grouping.

On their forum Rocksteady has made the following comment

We’re aware that some users are reporting performance issues with the PC version of Batman: Arkham Knight. This is something that Rocksteady takes very seriously. We are working closely with our external PC development partner to make sure these issues get resolved as quickly as possible.

TechRaptor has contacted Iron Galaxy Studios, those responsible for the PC port, and Warner Brothers and will update this article when more information has been made known to us.

What do you think of the PC launch of Batman: Arkham Knight? Have you had any of these issues or even more that we’re not aware of? Might this be the first change people get to try out Steams digital return system?
