Final Fantasy XIV Surpasses 6 Million Cumulative Players

Square Enix has confirmed that Final Fantasy XIV has exceeded six million player cumulatively, worldwide.

This milestone does not include free trial players, and was reached within three years of its relaunch as A Realm Reborn.

The company is releasing a patch today, version 3.35, and will allow players to login for free globally from Ju;y 25th at midnight Pacific through August 30th at 11:59. This will allow players a full five days to explore all of the new content, and is even available to players who have not been active for 30 or more days.

You can get an overview of the patch below, via Square Enix:

Patch 3.35 introduces the Deep Dungeon: The Palace of the Dead, where newcomers and veterans can band together for an unprecedented adventure in FINAL FANTASY® XIV. With parties of up to four, the Palace of the Dead is the first of many planned content updates where players can battle through an array of enemies, avoid traps and tackle bosses to gain valuable experience. The dungeon features randomly generated maps, several dozen floors, and starts every participant at Level 1 with a unique new progression system. Diving deep into the dungeon will see players focusing on strengthening their gear throughout their journey, as they work to unravel the mystery of the Palace of the Dead.

Final Fantasy XIV is currently available for PC, PlayStation 3, and PlayStation 4.
