Guillermo del Toro Will “Never Again Get Involved in Video Games”

Following the cancellation of Silent Hills and the fallout between Konami and Hideo Kojima, it seems like Guillermo del Toro has gotten fed up with his direct involvement with video games.

In a sad bit of news, del Toro stated in an interview with Shack News that he will “never again get involved with video games.”

From the interview:

I have proven to be the albatross of video games. I joined THQ, and THQ goes broke. I join Kojima, and Kojima leaves Konami. I have decided, in order not to destroy anyone else’s life, I have decided I will never again get involved in video games. Otherwise, I’ll join someone and his house will explode, or something.

I was in an apprenticeship. I learned a lot from Kojima-san, of course, and I learned a lot from my experience at THQ. I did. It changed the way I see narrative. We put two years of work in THQ. It was insane. We mapped it out, we did the viable, we did the outlines, we did the screenplay. We did a bunch of stuff. I know some of the tricks, or the stuff that I wanted to learn, I learned. Then I went to the side of Kojima-san, because he’s a master, and I can gladly say that we are friends and I love his work and I will continue learning from him as a friend. But I am not… if I join another video game, World War III will start.

He did say he wasn’t completely turned away from video games, however, as he’ll allow other game companies to use his work as source material.

I can be creative about it, and I can be educated about it, and talk about it in a way that helps them make the video game. But no – I can’t.

It’s interesting to note that despite his statements to Shack News, del Toro did recently say both he and Hideo Kojima could be working on something together.

It is disheartening to see someone who has such a passion for video games and see two projects of his get canned. Hopefully we’ll see the day where del Toro makes his dream game. It seems though that day won’t be happening for quite a while.

Silent Hill Nurse Cosplay

The beautiful cosplayer Yiri did this amazing Silent Hill nurse cosplay! The images were captured by Mike Rollerson at PMX 2012 in Los Angeles. Here is what the photographer had to say about the shoot…

“She really pulled off the creepy look and the locations around the convention fit the series great — it was definitely a highlight of the convention for me as I’ve been wanting to do a shoot like this for years!”
